Colin McLeod and Ian Down seem to own the Captains Cup competition after winning it for the second time in three years. It is good to see my team mates in good form before our trip away in May. I just hope they have not peaked too early. They were presented with the Captain's Cup by club Captain Derek Lindley after their 41 to 39 point win over David Ullyett and Shaun Harries in the final. It is good to see that Ian and Tiger Woods have something in common and that is they can both perform to a high standard with a bad back. Colin and Ian, both friends since being class mates at Vandyke school, looked unlikely to repeat their win of two years ago after squandering an early lead to be three points in arrears with three holes to play. But David and Shaun lost their way, losing on the last hole after teeing-off all square. It just goes to show you that anything can happen in this game.
Our Open Day this Sunday
We have our Open day on Sunday with a focus on signing up new members. Prospective golfers will be able to play nine holes free to test their skills on our course. If you know anyone that would like to attend they can book a tee time from 1pm by contacting us on 01525 244815 or by clicking here. Guests on the day will also be shown around the club and advised on the various membership packages and payment terms the club has on offer. A separate Open Day for junior golfers will be held at Leighton on May 25. We are currently visiting local schools. At present we are in St Leonards, we will then be going on to Heathwood and then Linslade Middle. We are also running a satellite club at Gilbert Inglefield. Our goal is to grow golf at Leighton Buzzard Golf Club. David Hawkins, President of the Leighton club which was one of the first to qualify for the prestigious GolfMark status says: "There's no better time than now to get into golf, learn a sporting skill that will last a life-time and meet lots of new people in a very social environment."
Ann Tilbury was top scorer in Ladies April Stableford, her 36 points being the highest return of the day.
1 Ann Tilbury, 36pts;
2 Janet Masters and Debbie Pollard-Barns, 32pts;
1 Paula Cox, 35pts;

PING Demo Day
Following our successful Callaway demo day, we have a PING demo day on Friday May 2nd between 12pm and 4pm. PING will have on show their outstanding range of equipment. I myself am using their new i25 irons and they are lovely. Along with their extremely successful G25 range PING have a couple of new options for people to try. I have already mentioned the i25 range, but PING also have a new iron out called Karsten. This iron is the ultimate in forgiveness and gives prodigious distance. It is definitely an iron I would urge you all to try. Please click here to book your slot. Spaces are limited so don't delay.
