Two Lady Members have hit holes-in-one playing in competitions at the Club this past week. Val Slater hit her hole in one on the Par 3 14th in a ladies May Stableford competition on a day so windy she had to use her driver for the 140-yard inch perfect shot into a 40 mile an hour headwind. It was her second ace in recent years. Anne Tilbury had her hole in one on the 11th hole. It was her first in the 20 years she's been playing golf. Anne used a 5-rescue club for the 145-yard shot in a competition against club colleague Vicky Pratt.
Phil Coumbe shot the lowest score to win the Beck Trophy with a nett 68, one clear of Will Sampson, Mel Glover, Manny Barker, Oliver Banwell and Jamie Stone, with Mark Hammond and Colin McLeod both finishing with a nett 70.
I was really pleased to see Paul Naudo winning the May Mixed Open Medal with a nett 66 as I had just seen Paul during the week for a lesson. Well done Paul. Paul was two shots clear of Chris Yirrell and Brian Carter, with El Rompido graduate Derek Shaw taking fourth spot with a nett 69, one clear of Steve Tyas and Colin Southwell. I would like to give a special mention to Joyce Young who came 6th with a nett 71. Joyce took 6th on countback from Michael Brooker. Joyce was a member of the Academy last year and she is one the many success stories we have at the Club. Joyce is now a full member and as a former member of the Academy she has came through the ranks and it is fantastic to see she is now flourishing. I am really proud of her. Well done Joyce!!
