Greetings from Maurice Campbell
Leighton Buzzard Golf Club - Golf Director

Greetings golfers,

Ken Wilson, a Leighton Buzzard member, has been recognised for his efforts in growing the club's membership. He was presented with the England Golf Membership Award at a gala dinner at Hinckley Island Hotel in Leicestershire.

"It's a great honour for me to be recognised nationally," said Ken who received his award from Richard Flint, England Golf's Director of Participation and Club Support. "It has been hard work, but it's been very rewarding."

Ken's approach supports the aims of the England Golf strategic plan, 'Raising Our Game,' which calls on all who care about the sport to work together to create a brighter future for the game, including more members, more players and stronger clubs.

He has been a member at Leighton Buzzard for 13 years and head of membership for the past five.

Our club runs campaigns to develop new golfers and to recruit both regular players and newcomers. Ken performs inductions, runs open days and works closely with the professional team to grow membership.

He is particularly keen to ensure that new members are welcomed and integrated into the club and introduces them to appropriate playing groups.

"The most important thing is making a new member comfortable and welcome. I don't think you can put a high enough price on that," said Ken. "There's nothing magical about it, I just treat people as I would like to be treated.

"A new member recently said to me 'I've been here about a week and it feels that I've been here a year.' That makes me feel great!"

Hitting the ball 28yards further off the tee will change your 2nd shot.

A recent survey was carried out with golfers who had a 90mph swing speed with a driver. It showed that most of them launched the ball too low, therefore they lost distance which averaged out at about 28yards. It highlights the fact that even if you hit the ball out of the centre of the club, with the wrong angle of attack you will lose distance. So if you are looking for a little more distance it may not be a new driver you require but a helping hand in seeing how you launch the ball into the air.

To book an appointment please come and see us in the shop, call us on 01525 244815 or click here and we can see if you can gain some extra yardage from the tee.

Helping you choose the right ball

Some of you may still be in winter mode playing with a distance ball, when something offering a bit more feel would be better suited to the conditions and your swing. As the ball is the only piece of equipment you use for every shot it’s vital you get this right, so pop into the shop to ask for our help. One ball you may want to consider is Srixon’s new Z-Star.
