Leighton Buzzard Golf Club Golf Director
I thought it was great to see Tiger Woods once again competing and showing some form, there was always going to be some mistakes after having that much time away from competitive golf. From the bits I saw it looked like he was swinging the club slightly smoother and not going at the ball in a manner which looked like he was trying to out hit the other players. Maybe, because of his back problems, he's decided to play to his strengths of a superb short game and mental toughness and not try to overpower the golf course. A shorter hitting player with a good short game will always score well and compete for titles. Zach Johnson proves this as did the great Jack Nicklaus when he won the last of his Masters titles. You have to play to your strengths in this game and not take on the shots that you might hit correctly once in ten tries. Top players won't go for the risky shot unless they are at least 75% sure they can pull it off. It's worth bearing in mind next time you're faced with the challenge. Ask yourself can I really be confident of hitting this shot successfully if not take on the shot you know will keep the ball in play and keep the big numbers off the card.
Well done to Steve Leng and Shane Kimber who won the Christmas foursomes with a score of 39.5, a shot clear of Phil Coumbe and Chris Read, with Jeff Wood and Steve Molyneaux third with 38 points.
Josh Banwell and Stuart Leslie pipped Adrian Stephenson and Steve Paine and Peter Gadsden and Simon Rossiter for fourth spot on countback after all three pairs finished with 37 points, one clear Shane Bentley and Matt Sale whose 36pts beat Simon Thornton and Peter Rutt by half a shot. Ben Irvine and John Smith, George Sadowski and Derek Ellam and David Hanley and Keith Camp completed the prize winning line-up.
Golf Lesson Packages
For more enjoyable golf and better scoring Will, Wayne and I offer 4 lessons for the price of 3 or 7 lessons for the price of 5. All aspects of the game can be looked at and worked on. During the winter months the Swing Studio can be used with the use of FlightScope technology where the data from every shot that is hit can be analysed.

"That last lesson with Maurice on my long game certainly worked - I shot a nett 67 in the Midweek Medal, even with 38 putts! So, you can see how well my drives and long fairway shots were going. I hit 11 of the 14 fairways and the other three were only in the first cut rough. I followed that up with another gross 81 in the Saturday Medal, nett 69 now that I am off 12!"
Miguel Moitas - 2011 County Champion
"Maurice, I just wanted to say thank you for last week!!! Just got back from the EGU Champion club event at Scarcroft GC in Leeds where I finished on -5. Best I've driven the ball in years!!!"
Matt Tizzard - 2011 Leighton Buzzard Club Champion
"Maurice has to be about the best coach in the region and his advice put me in good stead, particularly on the putting green."

The wait is over, Tiger Woods is back. This perfect bunker shot was one of many highlights from his four days in the Bahamas - although there was plenty of rust, too.
I hope you enjoyed the newsletter and have a great weekend.
